Through The Open Door
7 minutes, United States, 2017
Sometimes a trip outside the comfort zone is all it takes to kindle personal growth and confidence in the goodness of humanity.
Director Max Owens was used to riding his bike to school and work, but knew next to nothing about long-distance bike touring. Regardless, he was hungry for novel experiences, so he loaded up Caroline, his beloved neon green bicycle, in Thailand and hit the road. Almost 4000 kilometers and three months later, he stopped pedaling in Hanoi. Along the way, he learned a couple of things about the value of human connection and the growth that only a foray into the unknown can force. Through The Open Door is an impassioned call to try something radically new, and trust that the pieces will fall into place.
