For many Indigenous peoples, running is a form of prayer, connection, communication, and ceremony. For Diné women, coming-of-age traditions begin with a morning run to the East to greet the sunrise. Alex Staten, raised away from her Navajo culture, struggles to reconnect. With her grandmother as her only link—and time running out—she seeks to learn all she can to carry their traditions forward. Alex strives to reclaim her right to run in ceremony as a Diné woman, deepening her bond with her family, community, and culture, and learning to run in beauty.
