Tad’s Emerging World – Glen Canyon Exposed
A photo exhibit at Hidden Light Gallery by Dawn Kish

10:00 am – 3:00 pm
This photo exhibit is about a journey with adventure/conservation photographer, Dawn Kish, documenting the hidden treasure of the Southwest known as Glen Canyon. This epic landscape of red sandstone walls, flowing rivers and cultural sites was submerged by the damming of the Colorado River in 1963. This created the 2nd largest reservoir in the US called Lake Powell along the border of Arizona and Utah. The lake is at its lowest water level since the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam because of human consumption, climate change and drought. Kish went on an adventure to explore this canyon she never knew about except in books, films and photos.
To document this event, Kish exposes this epic landscape with an old Crown Graphic 4×5 film camera. This camera documented Glen Canyon pre-dam from the legendary photographer, Tad Nichols, from 1950 to 1963. “He is like the Ansel Adams of Glen Canyon,” says Kish, “and is inspiring me every step of the way.”
To see the film Kish created about Tad’s Emerging World the screening is Friday, April 14th at 7pm.
